Senior Seminar Capstone
Over 50 students, parents, faculty, staff, communication professionals and alumni attended the award-winning When Worlds Collide: A Celebration of Diversity. The reconceptualized diversity event encouraged networking between people of different cultural groups and heritages. The goal of the event that I reconceptualized and planned was to inspire attendees to think outside of the box and push the envelope with their understanding of diversity and what it means to be a minority. The event was part of a series of events on Spring Hill College’s campus to celebrate Black History Month and the 50th anniversary of the Letter from Birmingham Jail, where Martin Luther King Jr. commends Spring Hill College for integrating. The college’s 60th anniversary of being a desegregated higher learning institution was also celebrated. With help from the Alumni Development office the event positively educated the Spring Hill College community, gave everyone who attended the opportunity to self-identify and increased attendance from the previous event by 233 percent. Above is the flyer used to promote the event and below are pictures of the event set up, speakers and guests.
